Fatphobia in Marketing

fatphob

So as part of a new marketing plan Fitness First, a diet and exercise company in the Netherlands has taken over bus stops so that when you sit down it weights you and projects the number up onto the side of the bus stop for everyone to see.  This has to be one of the most messed up forms of fatphobia I have seen in a long time.  The public shaming around fatness is taken to a new extreme when one’s weight is put up for the world to see.

I also think it is problematic that this is a fitness company that is conflating weight with fitness.  There is a difference between falling in the BMI category for your height and being healthy in a holistic way.  Conflating weight and health is both misleading and incorrect.
